My first Disney drawing. I was commissioned to do a full-color, 5x7 Maleficent, and specifically to make it a "Richard Cox" Maleficient, whatever that is, and to emphasize both the evil and the sexy.
So here she is, on 9x12 paper. My prelims were a lot more standard, but as I started drawing her it became more and more deco and designy than originally intended. She WAS going to be on a bridge with lightning or somesuch behind her. But after I started on those wings ( based on designs of the dragon Maleficent from a Disney Sleeping Beauty book), that all went out the window. I started working more with curves and circles, and pulling some art deco and a touch of nouveau into the composition.
I also has always intended to use all fo the space around the drawing as a framing element -- it's off white paper, so things like white ink or pencil really pop -- but only at the end decided that baby needed some splatters. I think a white matte on the off-white paper could look cool.
ANYWAY, Copic marker and colored pencil on off-white, 9x12 drawing paper.
