A part of a Heroes Con 2012 pre-con commission, this Black Widow is Copic markers, white ink, and colored pencil on a sketch cover Avengers #7.
These covers can be really hit or miss in regards to how well they take Copic markers, and even ink. I think it has something to do with the sheen or gloss on the board. And it varies from run to run. In fact, I know artists who flat-out won't do sketch covers as a result. The Avengers #7 stock is a toughie. not the worst, not the best. It takes longer (because of the coating on the board) for ink to dry, and the same coating makes a good scan tough to get. Blending is harder as well, but you can help it out a great deal through the use of colored pencils to assist in the blending. All-in-all, it was a fun challenge and turned out pretty well.
Truth!!! I did like 10 of these back to back on FCBD, and I was ready to curse a blue streak. Unfortunately I was surrounded by 10 yr. olds. LOL. They were stilll fun to do though
